The ZERO project, which will be housed in the AgTech Park, is the first of several controlled environment agricultural concepts with the goals of improving indoor farming locally and exploring and pushing the limits of desert-climate farming in the UAE.
The first agricultural facility in the UAE can be found in KEZAD (Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi Group), the leading operator and developer of completely integrated and specialized economic zones in the United Arab Emirates.
KEZAD's thriving food industry environment provides a solid foundation for expansion for both regional businesses and the food industry as a whole.

Al Ain Industrial City will further expand its technology-focused sites in the future year.
The first collaborative project between ADQ and ZERO relies on the advantages of growing crops in vertical layers in a controlled environment in order to increase local production of fresh food, nutraceuticals, and biopharmaceuticals.
Producing a broader range of fresh foods closer to the UAE's consumers also means higher yield, shorter growing times, and lower water consumption.
At its proof-of-concept level, the ZERO project will produce around 10 tonnes annually in a 1,000-square-metre warehouse that has been retrofitted for the purpose.
A 40,000-square-metre commercial phase of the vertical farm is planned to be launched in Al Ain after the trial phase concludes in the summer of 2023. This will be done in tandem with the launch of other projects utilising controlled-environment technologies.
