To support the UAE's ambitious initiative to plant 100 million mangroves by 2030 and to contribute to the efforts of the UAE-led Mangrove Alliance for Climate, the European Union Delegation to the United Arab Emirates organised a visit to the country.
Arab Youth Center members and UAE Youth Climate Delegates also attended the event.
Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency HE Ahmed Al Hashmi, along with Dr. Das Himansu and Huda Al Mazrouei, greeted the group upon their arrival. Jubail Island sent officials such as Corporate Director Eng. Abdullah Al Shamsi and Adventure Director Mohamed Hafez to meet with the delegates.
On Jubail Island, Etihad Airways and Marriott International will plant 12,000. mangrove trees.
The group was shown around Jubail Mangrove Park and educated on the vital role mangroves play in reducing the effects of climate change. Together with the young people who participated, they planted a number of mangrove plants.
"Carbon storage is a superpower of mangroves," HE Andrea Matteo Fontana said. Up to ten times more carbon is taken in by these than by a tropical jungle. We applaud the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) attempts to preserve and restore mangrove forests, which are essential to the health of our planet.
