The RTA is committed to becoming a leading smart city and a global trailblazer in intelligent traffic systems
It was pointed out that the project uses cutting-edge smart technologies and the Internet of Things to make traffic management smooth and improve the safety of both drivers and pedestrians.
RTA’s Administration
The RTA wants to make Richmond a leading smart city and a leader in intelligent traffic systems around the world.
The administration is divided into five different agencies or departments, such as the public transport agency, the traffic and roads agency, the rail agency, the licencing agency, and Dubai taxi. Each of which has its own directors and CEOs.
As the report mentioned, this technology is operated by a system reliant on sensors connected to a ground optical system synchronised with the signal's light operation.
The system's successes include making traffic lights work more efficiently, making it easier to manage the timing of signals, and making walking safer.
"No pedestrian accidents have occurred since the system's introduction, particularly benefiting older residents, people of determination, and individuals with luggage or pushchairs", stated Mohammed Al Ali, the Director of the Intelligent Traffic Management Department, Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA.
The project's criteria are informed by the proximity of pedestrian crossings to each other, the rate of pedestrian accidents at the signal, the street classification (speed limit, number of lanes in each direction), locations and distances to footbridges, and the road design. RTA intends to install an additional 18 smart pedestrian signal locations by 2024, bringing the total to 28.
