Qatar's Commitment To Preserving Biodiversity
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has started a campaign to clean and fix up Fuwairit Beach. This marks the start of sea turtle nesting season.
The minister stated that the ministry was working towards rehabilitating and equipping the beach and releasing young sea turtles into the wild, which would contribute to preserving biodiversity, among other developments.
H. E. Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani underlined that preserving the environment was one of the Qatar National Vision 2030's four pillars that all members of society should strive to achieve.
He mentioned that over the past five years, the ministry had released more than 40,000 young turtles into the wild and that they were currently raising 500 baby turtles with a success rate of more than 85%, under the ministry's researchers' supervision and observation.
The Minister has asked the government and local communities to work together to protect and preserve the environment. He also thinks that everyone should do what they can to protect Qatar's unique biodiversity.He said that it was everyone's job to keep the environment from getting worse and to protect plants and animals that help keep the ecological balance.
