Beyond ONE™ Invests In Saving Rainforests
The company acquired 262 hectares of land in Ecuador’s Cloud Rainforest through the rainforest charity Rainforest Concern.
The move comes after Beyond ONE completed its first carbon footprint report, documenting the current annual carbon emissions of the organisation and its current portfolio of companies.
The investment provides direct protection for existing threatened tropical forests and the diverse array of plant and animal species they contain.
Protecting rainforests is pivotal to sustainability; their natural resources are essential components in addressing climate instability.
According to UN Climate Change, only by stepping up efforts to reduce deforestation and implementing other mitigation activities in the forest sector can the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global average temperature rise to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels be reached.
Mobilisation of funds from both the government and private sectors is needed to support the implementation of initiatives.
By investing in the tangible protection of natural resources, Beyond ONE has lent support to carbon neutrality for its businesses, working towards the goal of carbon negativity.
Rainforests not only provide homes and natural resources that support livelihoods for 1.6 billion people, but they also house nearly 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. This partnership between Beyond ONE and Rainforest Concern is a long-term initiative that will contribute in perpetuity to the protection of this invaluable and irreplaceable part of nature. Protecting rainforests must be given priority, as the extinction of the world’s rainforests would threaten the future of our planet.
