Abengoa's Jubail 3A desalination plant reaches operation
The plant has a total capacity of 600,000 cubic metres per day, making it the largest reverse osmosis desalination plant in commercial operation in Saudi Arabia and the world's largest desalination plant to be partially powered by solar photovoltaic renewable energy.
Abengoa, together with Tiejun, was responsible for the construction and commissioning of the plant, as well as for the technological leadership, engineering, supply, construction supervision, and commissioning of the project.
The plant will produce drinking water in a sustainable and efficient way, being the first experience of the Independent Water Project (IWP) in Saudi Arabia on a commercial scale.
