Taweelah Desalination Plant Combines Clean Energy And Drinking Water
Abengoa invests in research in sustainable technology and implements these technologies in Spain as well as exporting them globally. These technologies include concentrated solar power and desalination.
The Taweelah plant is the largest reverse osmosis desalination plant in the world, producing 909,218 m3/day of drinking water, making it capable of supplying the city of Abu Dhabi throughout the year.
It is also the first plant to combine drinking water production with clean energy generation, thanks to the installation of a photovoltaic solar field with a capacity of over 70 MWp.
Abengoa's work at the Taweelah plant included design, engineering, equipment supply, commissioning, and start-up of the reverse osmosis and post-treatment systems.
The project is located at the Taweelah power and water generation complex, part of the United Arab Emirates government's plan to encourage private participation in the country's infrastructure development.
Abengoa has demonstrated its technical capabilities in developing complex projects and its position as a leading company in the desalination sector worldwide.
