Veolia Awarded Contract For Istanbul's Waste-To-Energy Plant
The plant, located in Istanbul, can process around 1.1 million metric tonnes of non-recyclable household waste annually, saving almost 1.5 million metric tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
The plant will produce 560,000 MWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of 1.4 million people.
The facility will help Turkey decarbonize its waste sector through energy recovery and recycling and contribute to the country's objective of achieving carbon neutrality by 2053.
Veolia will be responsible for the plant's entire operations and maintenance, ensuring compliance with EU environmental standards, improving energy efficiency, and reducing utility consumption.
The project is a collaboration between Veolia and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Waste Management Company (STA). The plant will create valuable energy, reduce waste and landfill use, and introduce a new sustainable industry to the region.
