An Agreement To Expand Carbon Capture Plants
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has signed a General Licence Agreement (GLA) with Saipem, a prominent Italian engineering company, for the provision of MHI’s proprietary KM CDR Process and Advanced KM CDR Process technologies. These technologies were developed in collaboration with the Kansai Electric Power Co. and will be used by Saipem in carbon capture plants. Saipem provides engineering, procurement, construction, and project management services in the energy and infrastructure sectors, and the GLA aims to expand the sale of carbon capture plants to Saipem’s core business fields in Europe and the Middle East.
MHI is striving to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and has been developing a CO2 solutions ecosystem that links diverse carbon emission sources with storage and utilisation. The GLA with Saipem can be expected to further advance MHI’s global CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation, and storage) strategy, positioning the company as a leader in the developing global CCUS market.
MHI has a cooperative relationship with Saipem, which has resulted in the construction of world-class-scale fertiliser plants using Snamprogetti Urea technology. With bases in over 70 countries, Saipem possesses advanced and innovative engineering technologies and has a solid track record of completed deliveries.
The GLA with Saipem marks a newly expanded collaboration that will further advance MHI’s global CCUS strategy in addition to other partnerships the company has formed over the years globally. The collaboration enables Saipem to consolidate its position and expand its portfolio of solutions in the decarbonization sector, combining its expertise and track record in designing and building upstream, midstream, and downstream facilities with the most advanced post-combustion technology for large plants.
As part of its mission "Net Zero", MHI has been undertaking strategic initiatives towards decarbonizing the energy supply side. With the newly signed GLA, MHI can accommodate numerous projects and maintain a leading position in the developing global CCUS market. Saipem, with its global presence and expertise in engineering, procurement, construction, and project management services, can use MHI’s proprietary KM CDR Process and Advanced KM CDR Process technologies to expand its portfolio of solutions in the decarbonization sector, offering more comprehensive and effective services for its clients.
