Water Treatment and Desalination Contracts
Fisia Italimpianti, a prominent player in water treatment and desalination plants, has secured two lucrative contracts totaling €408m ($439m) for the development and operation of a water treatment plant in Saudi Arabia. These contracts not only mark the company's entry into the oil and gas industry but also signify its return to the operation and maintenance segment of the water sector.
The first contract, valued at $327m, entails a comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) agreement. Fisia Italimpianti will construct a cutting-edge plant for the ZULUF Central Processing Facilities as part of the Arab Heavy Crude Oil Increment of Saudi oil giant Aramco's ZULUF field development program. This state-of-the-art facility will have a maximum production capacity of 185,000 cubic meters per day and will treat, degas, and filter water for iron and suspended solids. The project is a collaboration with Almar Water Solutions and Aljomaih Energy and Water Co Ltd on behalf of Aramco.
The second contract, worth $112m, focuses on the operation and maintenance of the completed plant for an impressive period of 25 years. Fisia Italimpianti, along with Almar Water Solutions, Aljomaih Energy and Water Co Ltd, and Aquatech International, owns a 20% share in the joint venture responsible for this undertaking.
This venture significantly strengthens Webuild Group's position in the water sector, aligning with its recently announced 2023-2025 roadmap aimed at fostering growth and expansion. Fisia Italimpianti boasts a long-standing presence in the Middle East, having constructed desalination and water treatment plants in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE, providing clean drinking water to over 20 million people worldwide.
The ZULUF onshore oil facilities water treatment plant in Saudi Arabia is anticipated to be completed within three years and will generate approximately 1,500 direct and indirect job opportunities. It will play a critical role in treating, degassing, and filtering water for iron and suspended solids, which will be reinjected into oil wells to maintain pressure and facilitate the production of Arab Heavy crude oil.
Overall, these contracts represent a significant milestone for Fisia Italimpianti as it expands its operations into new sectors and reaffirms its commitment to excellence in water treatment and desalination projects.
