Muscat's Sustainable Future: 20% Renewables | |

The Muscat governorate in Oman is making significant strides towards achieving its renewable energy targets. With a commitment to generating 20% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2040, the governorate has witnessed a 31.5% increase in renewable electricity production in 2022 compared to the previous year.

The number of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Muscat has also risen by 70%, with a total of 114 solar PV systems with a combined capacity of 9,201 kW.
The Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC) is actively supporting these targets, connecting 41 solar PV systems with a total capacity of 2,276.07 kW in the current year.
To encourage further adoption of renewable energy, the Authority for Public Service Regulations (APSR) launched the SAHIM I scheme in 2017, facilitating the installation of solar PV systems.
MEDC is also collaborating with other companies to commission projects and supply solar energy to residential systems in Muscat.
With a forecast of connecting 20,112 kW generation capacity to the MEDC network by the end of 2023, the governorate is making significant progress towards achieving its renewable energy goals.
