Francisco De Souza, Managing Director for Talabat Qatar stated, “To help the F&B industry cut its delivery emissions, Talabat Qatar has introduced 100% plant-based, PFA-free, and sustainable packaging, as well as introducing tech4good environmental measures such as a no-cutlery option on the app - which has an opt-out rate of 70%, saving up to 74Kgs plastic a year. For example, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality, we have created a collection in our app called "Collect. Win. Stick ", which directs Talabat customers to several vendors that are using plant-based packaging.”
In addition to its talbot in the Qatar Foundation and Msheireb district and electric scooter delivery at events like Lusail Outdoor Cinema, the company is also exploring Drone Delivery and is working closely with the government to bring e-bikes to the country to further help offset delivery emissions.
One-third of Talabat's footprint comes from corporate emissions, which include emissions from the Talabat mart and the Talabat headquarters. While the company's headquarters had very low emissions, they did switch to using only reusable water bottles, cups, and silverware.
As the carbon footprint takes into account the entire supply chain process such as packaging, processing, picking fruits, animals grazing & meat works, and highlights the need in the supply chain to become more sustainable in many areas. For example, Talabat Mart has started to reduce this footprint through the “Made in Qatar” range by sourcing locally-grown products - as well as other reduction initiatives such as product waste.
