The jets, according to Saudia CEO Ibrahim Koshy, would seat between four and six passengers and provide "premium service."
“It shows Saudia’s commitment to sustainability because we’re talking about 100 percent electric aircraft and we are the first airline in the MENA region that’s introducing this as part of their network,” Koshy added.
Saudi Arabia has made this announcement as part of its ongoing efforts to achieve the country's lofty sustainability goals. It was announced last year that the kingdom will achieve net zero by the year 2060, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman claiming that the Kingdom would invest more than $180 billion to make this happen. An announcement of a $1.5 billion sustainability fund to invest in technologies to promote a secure and inclusive energy transition was made earlier on Wednesday by Saudi oil behemoth Aramco, one of the world's most valuable firms and the world's biggest producer. Aramco Ventures, Aramco's VC division, will oversee the fund.
