With the opportunity to leverage the Adnoc Research and Innovation Centre, the collaboration seeks to support the development of technology proofs of concept, scale-ups, and pilots while investigating the feasibility of their deployment across key projects at Adnoc. This is in line with the objectives of the UAE's In-Country Value programme, which encourages the creation of "home-grown" innovations.
“Together with Baker Hughes, we will focus on finding innovations that help the UAE achieve its Net-Zero by 2050 strategic initiative, while also generating In-County Value,” stated Sophie Hildebrand, Adnoc's group chief technology officer.
Towards its goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is investing Dh600 billion ($163.5bn) in clean and renewable energy projects over the next three decades. On Tuesday, the United Arab Emirates and the United States struck an agreement to invest $100 billion to generate 100 gigawatts of sustainable energy worldwide by 2035. An advisory committee will be established between the two nations to help prioritise projects and eliminate roadblocks. Moreover, they'll coordinate their efforts to provide technical and financial aid to commercial projects in underdeveloped and low-income nations.
“As an energy technology company, we are keen to work with Adnoc to locally develop technologies that can support a more sustainable energy future in the UAE and beyond,” stated Zaher Ibrahim, Baker Hughes' vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Due to rising worldwide demand for oil and gas with a reduced carbon intensity, Adnoc said this week that it has awarded three framework agreements worth $4bn. Adnoc Drilling, Schlumberger, and Halliburton, all American oilfield service companies, were the lucky recipients of these contracts. Adnoc's onshore and offshore operations are covered by the agreements, which have a five-year term and a two-year extension option.
