Oman Cables' roadmap is supported by consistent policies and actionable strategies, with several initiatives in line with the Sultanate's national ambitions, including the recent green, hydrogen-based shift.
Cinzia Farisè, CEO of Oman Cables, said: “We are proud to announce that Oman Cables is successfully on track to achieve its net-zero objectives as we renew our commitment to the Sultanate’s national 2050 vision. With COP27 fast approaching, the focus on sustainable action has rightly increased, but Oman Cables has been continuously working towards improving sustainability performance progress over time by studying and deploying deep metrics, leveraging our capabilities to unlock access to innovative infrastructure solutions for the benefit of all stakeholders while safeguarding our planet’s future.”
The Regional Sustainability Steering Committee, led by Top Executives, and the 39 Sustainability Ambassadors across the Middle East, Africa, Turkey, and India ensure that sustainability remains at the core of all operations as the company continues to build on the sustainability legacy of Prysmian Group. Oman Cables has built a culture where environmental responsibility is deeply ingrained in its operations. OCI ensures the sustainability of manufacturing processes through the use of recycled raw materials and low-carbon goods, as well as through the management of waste and the circularity of products. Oman Cables bases its procedures on in-depth research into worldwide industry trends and best practises, all the while maintaining a firm dedication to the UNDP Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the interests of stakeholders across the Region via its offices in Oman, the UAE, Qatar, and KSA.
A social development initiative called SHE STEMS for Omani women was introduced by OCI in September 2022. SHE STEMS is an initiative that will train twenty young women to work in the Manufacturing and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) industries in the Sultanate. OCI's initiatives to create long-term value include establishing a Sustainability Academy in Muscat to advance sustainable development education for the 30,000 employees of Prysmian Group. The Academy plans to collaborate with groups across Oman and the region to promote sustainability awareness, develop future sustainability leaders, and create a more sustainable society. At the 10th annual Oman Forum 2022, an award for "Sustainability Leadership in Manufacturing" was given to Oman Cables in honour of the company's outstanding contributions to the three pillars of sustainability (social, economic, and environmental).
