AeroFarms, a vertical farm company, has partnered with Qatar Free Zones and Doha Venture Capital to scale their proprietary smart AgTech in order to meet the growing demand for fresh, locally grown greens in Qatar all year round.
Together, the Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA) and AeroFarms, a US-based Certified B Corporation and leader in indoor vertical farming, have announced plans to expand further in the Middle East by constructing a commercial indoor vertical farm in Qatar Free Zones (QFZ), which provides unrivalled connectivity and access to the region. The project will be funded by the Doha Venture Capital (DVC). Newark, New Jersey is home to the AeroFarms company headquarters, where greens are cultivated utilising patented aeroponic technology.
AeroFarms is an award-winning retail brand that is also a change-the-world enterprise, pioneering the use of intelligent indoor vertical farming to improve agricultural practises for the benefit of people and the earth. With the use of billions of data points and cutting-edge technology, AeroFarms selects the most tasty agricultural varieties and then optimises them for optimal quality, colour, nutrition, texture, yield, and taste, thus establishing a new benchmark in the culinary world.
The new commercial indoor vertical farm in Qatar will use AeroFarms' cutting-edge proprietary growing technology to produce 390 times more food per square metre per year than conventional field farming, with 95% less water usage and no pesticides. New technology developed by AeroFarms is intended to boost domestic food production, resulting in year-round access to high-quality food products produced domestically. This will cut down on food imports and boost a country's ability to feed itself. AeroFarms' initiative in Qatar will likely open the way for other private sector enterprises in this field, both domestic and foreign, to extend their activities in QFZ and take advantage of the advanced infrastructure now in place.
Minister of State and Chairman of the Qatar Free Zones Authority His Excellency Ahmad Al Sayed remarked, "We are thrilled to welcome AeroFarms to Qatar Free Zones. They are a pioneer in the food arena and vertical farming. AeroFarms will be able to take advantage of QFZ's world-class logistical infrastructure and cold chain storage facilities, as well as the shared commitment to technology, growth, and environmental consciousness fostered by the Ministry of Municipality and Doha Venture Capital's strategic partnership with the QFZ. We're excited to support AeroFarms' growth in the region and beyond, and to help them take advantage of the many advantages that the Qatar Free Zones provide enterprises that are creating the future of their industries.
With a long-term commitment to the Middle East and North African region, AeroFarms is expanding in Qatar to enable local production and raise higher food resiliency, as stated by AeroFarms Co-Founder and CEO David Rosenberg. Despite rising macropressures on conventional field farming, "QFZA and DVC are fantastic partners that share a similar long-term vision for how AgTech may positively disrupt and alter our food chain."
SQF Level 2 Good Manufacturing Practices, USDA Good Agricultural Practices, Non-GMO Project Verification, and the leading CEA Food Safety Seal were developed to distinguish indoor clean growing practises from traditional challenges in the field, ensuring the safety of the specialty greens grown by AeroFarms. Customers who prioritise safety and convenience will appreciate that AeroFarms' specialised greens don't contain any pesticides and are ready to eat without being washed first.
