According to media reports, the Council reaffirmed its support for the UAE to host COP28 in 2023 in order to boost international efforts in this area. The Council also praised the country's Net Zero 2050 strategic initiative on this score.
This was written in the final statement from the 43rd meeting of the GCC Supreme Council, which took place in Riyadh on Friday and ended there.
The Supreme Council thanked His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, for running the 43rd session of the meeting.
The report also said, "The Supreme Council also expressed its appreciation for Prince Mohammed's eagerness and interest in highlighting the process of cooperation between GCC nations in all fields" in his opening remarks.
Prince Mohammed congratulated Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the distinguished success of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in his inaugural speech, recalling the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed's role for the UAE and his sincere efforts in promoting the council's action.
