Drainage tunnel works at the New District Doha project in the first quarter of 2023, according to the report.
The report added that "the prequalified bid evaluation is currently underway." "The Authority will invite the successful applicants to participate in the main construction tender," said a source aware of the project details to Zawya Projects.
The main construction tender is expected to be floated by the middle of the first quarter of 2023, with contract award expected by the third quarter of 2023, according to the source.
The expression of interest (EOI) was issued on July 7, 2022. The deadline for bid submissions was pushed back from August 14 to September 25, 2022, and then to October 23, 2022.
The primary aim of the New District Doha strategic projects is to alleviate flooding issues and provide long-term future stormwater management infrastructure in line with the 2030 Vision and the Qatar Integrated Drainage Master Plan, as mentioned in the report.
Further explaining how the project will move water, the report stated that existing and future projects will transfer storm and groundwater flows onto strategic tunnel systems, where flows will gravitate to strategically located pumping stations. The water will then either be pumped out to sea via a marine outfall or stored within an inland storage lagoon.
The project will be tendered in four contracts: Contract 1: marine pumping station and marine outfall tunnel; Contract 2: eastern tunnels; Contract 3: western tunnels; and Contract 4: inland pumping station and inland wetland balancing lagoons.
The source disclosed supporting buildings for the project, which include an administration building, an electrical and control building, two security rooms, a utility building for workshop and storage, a standby power generator building, a fire pump house, a TSE pump house, an inland pumping station, a discharge stormwater to wetland, a coarse screen with a grabber mechanism, and a handling facility.
Halcrow (Consulting Engineering and Architects) has been appointed as the pre-contract consultant and design architect for the project. Gulf Laboratories Co. has been appointed as a geotechnical contractor, the source said, concluding the report.
The project is due for completion by the first quarter of 2026.
