By 2023, the plant is expected to have a power capacity of 270–320 megawatts.
The local utility developer Mowah Co. is also investing in the seawater desalination plant with Lamar Holding.
The report states that the seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant includes a water distribution network and is part of the Jafurah gas development scheme.
The project, which has a design capacity of 80,000 cubic metres per day, also includes power and utility facilities, according to the report; it also includes a 200-kilometer-long water distribution network component.
SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corp., a Chinese company, will be the assigned EPC contractor for the project.
According to the report, Jafurah is located to the southeast of Ghawar, the world's largest conventional oil field.Its gas development scheme is part of Aramco’s $3.2 billion unconventional resources programme that plans to develop shale gas in three regions.
To create an independent steam and power plant to provide for the gas development project in July, Kamco, the South Korean utility developer and investor, takes charge of the contract.
Aramco has chosen Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. to be the financial adviser for the project's independent utility schemes.
