Report states that Aldar and Diamond developers’ new project, Sustainable City, aims to advance sustainability in Abu Dhabi. This collaborative venture will create a special community that is entirely sustainable on the island.
According to the report, Yas North will house The Sustainable City—Yas Island, which will cover 397,000 square meters. It will be built with 864 townhouses and flats and 3,000 sq m of retail space and will be completed in accordance with the UAE’s net-zero aims and the highest environmental aspects.
The first fully operating sustainable community in the Middle East was Dubai’s Sustainable City, which has established itself as a destination where people may live, work, and thrive while advancing the 2050 global climate targets.
The AED 1.8 billion project is expected to start construction in Q4 2022.
The developers of the project aim to have a 30-month completion goal. The new construction will enhance Yas Island’s existing array of residential, retail, and entertainment options, according to the report.
As the transportation report mentioned, EVs might work, but apart from the entire transportation system in the area, vehicles would run on a network of shared battery-powered buggies and bicycles.
According to the report, the city is based on the ideology of a net-zero carbon footprint. For that, the developers have strategically designed the entire landscape.
The green neighbourhood will include parks, lakes, and biodomes where vegetables will grow and be dispersed. Certain communal facilities would be available.
The report concludes that Island will have a strong emphasis on encouraging an active community, including a horse-riding hub with stables, a track and two halls, a gym and multiple pools, cycling and jogging tracks, football, basketball, and padel courts, retail and F&B establishments, a nursery, an autism center, and a green and sustainable mosque.
