Wellous Group Limited, a fast-growing Asia-based international nutrition company, has entered into an agreement to become DHL Express's first customer in Asia Pacific to use the GoGreen Plus service, according to the report.
As highlighted in the report, this partnership supports Wellous' sustainability goal to reduce the carbon emissions of its international shipments by 10% year over year.
"Sustainability is the foundation of everything we do today to improve the well-being of our people, our communities, and the environment in which we operate." said Andy Tan, co-founder and CEO of Wellous.
"Investing in sustainable solutions is a priority for us as we constantly seek greener alternatives."
"Through this strategic partnership, we are addressing our carbon footprint at its source and improving our value chain."
He also said, "We make sure that all of our operating businesses keep improving their sustainable practises and incorporate ESG principles into how they run."
"In recognising the increasing importance that air freight plays in modern logistics, we must also be cognizant of its adverse effects on climate change," said Julian Neo, managing director of DHL Express Malaysia and Brunei.
"We are honoured that Wellous has selected DHL to collaborate on their decarbonization journey. Together, we can be a driving force for sustainable transformation in our respective industries as we develop our processes to be more environmentally responsible than ever.
The report further stated that Wellous plans to deploy GoGreen Plus across its overseas trade lanes, encompassing markets in Asia, North America, the Middle East, and Oceania. The partnership between Wellous and DHL includes a framework to explore cooperation in other climate-neutral initiatives, communications, knowledge-sharing, and community engagement, all part of Wellous' measures to meet its eco-conscious ambitions.
GoGreen Plus, which DHL Express just started offering in 2023, makes it easy for businesses to reduce the damage their air freight supply chains do to the environment.
This is achieved through carbon offsets, where the release of CO2 and other greenhouse gases is decreased by blending the amount of conventional jet fuel needed with sustainable aviation fuel, according to the report.
GoGreen Plus gives you the option to stop carbon emissions from happening in the first place during parcel transport. This is different from offsetting, which helps to balance carbon emissions through climate protection projects around the world.
As the report elaborates, the volume of sustainable aviation fuel deployed represents Wellous' accelerated transition to cleaner operations. Sustainable aviation fuel is produced from sustainably sourced renewable waste and raw material residues, such as used cooking oil and animal fat. In its current form and over its lifecycle, it significantly cuts emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel.
GoGreen Plus is a part of the Deutsche Post DHL Group's mid-term sustainability plan for 2030. It helps the company reach its interim goal of meeting at least 30% of its fuel needs with sustainable fuels.
According to the report, the group announced two of the largest ever sustainable aviation fuel deals with BP and Neste in 2022, totaling over 800 million liters. It is expected that these strategic partnerships will save approximately two million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over the aviation fuel lifecycle—equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of 400,000 passenger cars.
