The "Sustainable Exploitation Index" has gotten much better for the fourth year in a row, according to the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD). This is because fishing-related measures and procedures have been put in place.
The index increased from 8.9 percent in 2018 to 69.1 percent at the end of 2022 and was calculated by evaluating a total of 35 fish species, which accounted for 97 percent of landings in 2022.
According to the report, since 2001, the EAD has been monitoring the state of fish stocks according to two basic indicators of sustainability.
The Zayed Sustainability Prize, the UAE’s pioneering global award for recognising excellence in sustainability, has launched a special category called ‘Climate Action.’
According to the report, this new category is aimed at recognising and promoting innovative solutions that address climate change and protect the planet's natural resources.
The launch of the Climate Action category happens at the same time as the UAE's Year of Sustainability, a national initiative that aims to speed up sustainable development across the country in line with the UAE's national strategy.
